A while back I entered a show, the SilkCut Award, and more recently I got word that I had been selected.
This was so exciting for me, because I have been entering the show for a number if years.
Also some of my favourite linocut artists and my teachers are regularly selected, so I feel as if I am improving and being rewarded.
However, the print that was in the photo for the entry had been slightly damaged since then, and I would need to assemble another one for the framing.
Four hours or so, later, with sore fingers, back and eyes, the layers had been cut with a craft knife and stuck together, ready for framing.
Then came Wylie, intent on distracting me!! So cute, how could I ignore him? But I then remembered The Deadline. So he had to go.
Finally, I was all done and it was delivered. Below is a detailed photo. To see the full print up close come to the opening:

The print is called The Yellow Wallpaper after the short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, written in the 1890s.
While my first impressions of the story were more about the residual energies imprinted in the wallpaper which effect the main character, apparently this is more about how women were treated in that era.
One report implies that doctors' handling of post partum women changed when this story was printed. Impressive!
The story is now available free in electronic books. A great suspenseful read with a twist!
