This is an very large echeveria succulent that came from my Nanna's garden. It can grow to a dinner-plate size if given the right conditions. But it is a survivor! It had to be, in her dry country garden.
My Nanna's garden was probably where I learned the value of growing things, both edible and decorative. I remember following Nanna around her Benalla garden as she dribbled just a little tank water on only the most precious plants - the others would just have to make do.
Succulents, bulbs and roses were always reliable, but I also remember the grapevine and the tomatoes. And the chutney was always delicious!
We used to exchange letters, and more often than not, the first line was about how much rain there had been and how the garden was going!
I miss my Nanna, but I keep a few reminders of her in my garden and say hello to her often.
