I was working on artworks last year for my proposals, grant applications and for crowd funding campaigns.
Not every application was successful, but I did manage to get overseas to the residency with the help of loyal supporters.
I spent the whole month of February 2014 at Can Serra, an artist residency in El Bruc, a village near Barcelona. I also spent nearly 4 weeks visiting London, Paris and Barcelona.
Then with all the other challenges that Life was throwing at me, I had 3 months to create most of the works in the exhibition. Some of the works were done while I was travelling.
As always, there are works I wanted to put in the show, but didn't fit with the theme or look; and there are always more works I wish I had done.
However, all the walls were filled up, and I have covered a range of media - watercolour, lino printing, photo collage, photographic art and installation.
I can step back and say "I have done a good job!"
I am pleased to see that a number of people have liked my work so much they have purchased some!
They were interested in my trip to Barcelona, and my photographs and artworks that were inspired by the city.
It was an interesting experience!
I can tell you that the camera lens does not do any justice to the real thing! There are subtleties that just don't transfer into digital.
With that said, I am planning to use this show to make my first e-book catalogue, that will also have an option to print, via an internet site.
This is mainly for my international friends, but it will also contain more information about the artworks and techniques, as well as information on the residency.
I hope to see you there on the final day:
June 6th, 2014 from 12 - 5pm
